If you understand register, you understand your voice.

Truly, I’ve just given you the keys to the kingdom. I know it might seem too simple or too easy, but the biggest truths are often the most obvious! That’s why we tend to miss them.

Here are a few of the highlights from the video.

Register refers to how your vocal folds close and form a wave. This is how the engine of your car runs.
Many people miss the fact that their engine isn’t working well. They spend time redoing the interior of the car, shining up the body and then wondering why it won’t drive.
There are two primary registrations: head voice and chest voice.
There is a point of transition in the voice that is often called “the break”
It is possible to blend the two in something that is usually referred to as “a mix” or “mixed voice.”
You have a register (head, chest or mix) you feel more comfortable in and a register (head, chest or mix) you feel less comfortable in when you sing.
The place where you struggle is the place you need to go.
Getting outside feedback is usually necessary to create change.
You only know what you know.
The goal is balance.
When you make new sounds with different register balance, you become aware of new possibilities.

The thing is, if you ONLY know this, I feel confident that you will be generally pointed in the right direction.
